La Puerta

The restaurant is a popular spot for both casual dining and happy hour enthusiasts, featuring a spacious layout and a dog-friendly environment, making it a great choice for families and pet owners alike.
One of the highlights of La Puerta is its world-famous margaritas, served with a unique twist-a sugar rim that balances the spicy, tangy, and sweet flavors of the drink. For those who enjoy some heat, the salsa accompanying the chips is equally impressive, offering a perfect blend of flavors. The food offerings are diverse, with standout dishes such as the carne asada burrito, which has been described as one of the best in years. The portion size is generous, with the burrito weighing in at a hearty 1lb, and quickly becoming a favorite for anyone who tries it. In addition to the burrito, the quesadillas and tacos are must-try items. The tacos, particularly the mixed selection, come with a delicious corn mix that adds a surprising flavor to the meal.
During happy hour (3-5 pm daily), La Puerta offers half-off appetizers, quesadillas, and drinks, making it a great spot to unwind after a long day. The shrimp quesadilla and guacamole are especially popular, with many guests considering the guacamole to be one of the best in San Diego. Parking around the restaurant can be a bit tricky, so it's recommended to allow a few extra minutes to find a spot. Despite this, La Puerta remains a top choice for both locals and visitors, thanks to its friendly ambiance, flavorful food, and excellent service. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing meal with friends or a lively happy hour experience, La Puerta is a must-visit destination in San Diego.
La Puerta Reviews
This may be my new happy hour spot! 3-5pm everyday! Half off appetizer, quesadillas, and drinks! The quesadillas are a good portion size and delicious!
I do have to say that I favor this location better than the downtown one. Hubby would definitely disagree! This location is a bit bigger and I love the decor and ambience. Dog friendly as well so it's a plus for me! Of course their happy hour applies here as well and one of the best in sd. Love their shrimp quesadilla and the guacamole and chips. Their guac is literally on my top 5 of guacs! Service was good and friendly.
The food was delicious!! The service was fast and efficient, some of the best even though the restaurant was packed. My favorite was the shrimp taco. I thought my chicken taco was a bit dry but it was still good. The queso fundido was my favorite and was a delicious appetizer along with their chips and salsa. Ambiance was also cute and perfect for a date night Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5
I found La Puerta on Yelp. The first visit was to their original location downtown in Gaslamp as we had a show afterwards. The second visit was to the Mission Hills location as we had a concert afterwards. I prefer the Mission Hills location more (newer and more space). Food in both places are delicious! Starting off - I'm a big fan of their cocktail menu, especially the Mezcal cocktails. At this point, I think I've tried almost all of them. My faves: - Jet Airline - Mezcal, Aperol, St Germain, Line - Dance Yourself Clean - Mezcal, Lemon, Grapefruit, Cinnamon, Soda - Bittersweet Symphony - Mezcal, Angostura, Pineapple, Lemon As for the food - their Street Tacos! I'm a big fan of their Carne Asada, Surf & Turf and Taqueso Carne. I've also tried their Ceviche, Caesar Salad, Shrimp Tostaditas and Flan. ENJOY!! Delicious!!
Surprised! I am overwhelmed with how amazing the food tasted . It is a Wednesday and although pretty steady in customers we were seated working 5-10 minute with a group of 9 to included 4 small children and it was not only comfortable but we were well taken care of . Within minutes our drinks were out .. NOT one order was wrong and we got a weak different items. To start I got their world famous margaritas and they brought chips with two types of salsa and I do not like spicy HOWEVER the under the moon was AMAZING I had a sugar brim and it offset the drink so you got sweet spicy tangy deliciousness same with the salsa for the chips very well balanced ! I also got the carne asada burrito and what was 1lb quickly turned into a 0 lb burrito . Early one of the best burritos I have had in years . My sister got the mix 3 tacos and there was some sort of corn mix ..... we don't even know what it was and it was gone in seconds . We got a carne quesadilla as well as the flan and a kids turkey dog .... Again surprised even the hot dog was good ! One thing I will say is remembering where you are when it comes to parking there are several places surrounding the resturant but be very aware you may need a few extra minutes . The waiter was knowledgeable and kind he was very quick and to the point not much conversation which I respected because he was ripping and running through our tables . No way you can be unsatisfied. Also there is not reservations which makes sense as they get you in ,fed, full, and out. I really enjoyed my entire night and the food was just outstanding!
